A história se passa nos anos 1990, período negro da Era Collor. Além da crise econômica, frustração também no mercado cinematográfico nacional com o fechamento da Embrafilme. Miguel, criado no Cine Vera Cruz, só conhece a vida pelos clássicos que projetou por mais de cinquenta anos, e sua relação com a realidade se confunde com a dos filmes. Mas a crise fecha o Vera Cruz e Miguel é obrigado a enfrentar o mundo fora das telas. Conhece a bela Angelina encenando Carlitos numa praça. Ainda envolto em suas memórias, fica encantado. Após um trágico incidente, o velho projecionista e a jovem atriz, aliados fraternos, enfrentam as adversidades da vida real para levar ao interior do país a magia do cinema. Um sonho, um projetor antigo e uma sacola com latas de cenas de filmes, mudam o rumo e o sentido de muitas vidas.
